CMN Sustainability Committee
In order to advance campus sustainability efforts, the College of Menominee Nation’s Sustainability Committee has been restructured. Chris Caldwell, SDI Director assumed the committee chair on October 20, 2016.
The committee, founded in 2013, at the recommendations of Second Nature, the supporting organization of the American College & Universities Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), was created to bring together departments across campus to discuss and unify sustainability projects. This format allowed for advancement of campus projects through collaboration, as well as projects designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The committee led by Rebecca Edler, Sustainability Coordinator, set a goal to reestablish the ACUPCC commitment through a 22 month Action Project that established the framework to overcome the challenges of noncompliance and develop a comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CAP). The committee presented the CAP to CMN leadership in December of 2015, and currently CMN is up-to-date with all Second Nature reporting.
Guided by the Menominee Theoretical Model of Sustainability, the committee will continue to develop the CAP into implementation by establishing timelines and setting quarterly reviews of progress.
