Garden and Food Sovereignty Initiatives

 plantspic

The College of Menominee Nation Sustainable Development Institute Gardening initiatives go far beyond the typical greenhouse and garden plots. SDI strives to incorporate outreach, research, food sovereignty initiatives, education, traditional knowledge, history, and more into gardening activities.

The CMN Greenhouse provides students with opportunities which range from learning experiences to food production. Raised garden beds and compost barrels work in conjunction with CMN permaculture efforts. No harmful pesticides or man-made fertilizers are used.

Seed-saving and food sovereignty initiatives are important to not only SDI, but to the community and surrounding tribal communities as well.
