Mary Webster, Cultural and Healthy Lifestyle Educator, visited SDI throughout summer and in September with a group from Maehnowesekiyah to learn more about healthy life choices and ways of
living. The topics covered so far have been planting a garden, sustaining families and making fresh salsa.

On the first visit, Rebecca Edler, Sustainability Education Coordinator, explained how to start a garden and when to plant certain vegetables. During the next visit, the group learned about the importance of sustaining families. The Sustainability Leadership Cohort’s video, SLC News, was shown and the group discussed how they make an effort to sustain their family in a good way. The most recent visit involved making salsa with fresh vegetables from the SDI garden.

After each workshop, time is spent to reflect on what was learned or experienced through discussion. Mary will continue working with SDI staff to develop programming for future groups.
