Weather and Phenology Data Collection: A student internship is being offered through the Sustainable Development Institute (SDI) of the College of Menominee Nation (CMN), funded through the USDA – NIFA Setting the Path grant project. Phenology in the context of this research is the study of periodic plant and animal life cycle events and how these events are influenced by seasonal and annual variations in climate, with an emphasis on dates of first occurrence in the annual cycle. This internship would provide a student the opportunity to learn about simple micro-climate variation, what phenological records and networks exist, and how to track and record common seasonal phenological events. The student would develop a strategy for how this work could be continued and/or expanded, and how these efforts may be used to tie into other climate change monitoring efforts.
