If you have ever wondered what purpose the windmill on the College of Menominee Nation campus serves, look no further! The windmill, located next to the Maintenance Building on CMN’s Keshena campus, is estimated to produce about 2,400kWH per year. This means that the windmill amounts to about $283 per year savings, or about 14% of the electrical needs of the Maintenance Building. According to the EPA greenhouse gas equivalency calculator, the clean electricity produced by the windmill equates to the annual greenhouse gas emissions of taking 3.2 passenger vehicles off the road.
The College of Menominee Nation Sustainable Development Institute erected the windmill in the spring of 2011. The windmill stands as an example of just one action the College has taken to become climate neutral.
